Well, I see that there will be spoken on the new growing program Smirf. So I
think, that some things should be made more clear, because else there some mis-
understandings could grow on Smirf's intentions.

Smirf is not (yet) targeting to compete with the current chess program prota-
gonists, though it is constantly becoming stronger. Its main goal is to create
a new drosophila for chess programming by trying the realisation of an engine,
which is SIMULTANEOUSLY aware to play closely related chess variants on the 10x8
board, based on Capablanca's extended piece set, and on the standard 8x8 board.

Smirf covers the normal chess game, Fischer Random Chess, a lot of 8x8 chess
variants based on individual FEN starting arrays, Capablanca Random Chess, Janus
Chess, Gothic Chess etc..

Smirf's evaluation scheme is based more on philosophy but on experiences, see
for that at: [http://www.chessbox.de/Compu/schachveri1_e.html] and a lot of
pages around there.

All the best for the coming new year 2005!

Regards,

Reinhard Scharnagl.
