Sometimes, due to heat and/or miro-corrosion, a pin of the chip, if it's in a (friction) socket, can loose good contact. Usually removing the chip and reinserting it or the action of attempting to do so is enough to restore contact. (really what I tend to try first is downward thumb pressure and a rocking motion). A cold solder joint might even regain contact by flexing the board a bit. Just a couple thoughts incase it ever flares up again, BK
