>given my fear of electricity Maybe I'm misunderstand what happened, but as far as I know a harddrive gets a maximum of 12V from the motherboard. So unless your power supply is malfunctioning there's not much to worry about for the human in the equation. But for the computer's sake it's always best to turn it off and remove the plug from the wall. And wear a proper grounding strap so that you're at the same potential as the computer.
