http://support.gateway.com/support/srt/docs.asp?sn=0018397504 This is my machine. It is a Gateway with 256 MB RAM. It runs an AMD K-7 650 MHz processor. The chipset is a Gateway Jebil AMD 750 Chipset motherboard (part number 4000629). From searches, I know that this 750 chipset consists of a 751 northbridge and 756 southbridge, and the bus this uses is the alpha ev-6. Who am I to disagree? The power supply, in case it's important, is a 200W 3.3 volt LP power supply with 700 ma revision 7. Once again, who am I to disagree? Is it possible (and relatively easy) to upgrad this processor? Can I simply buy a new motherboard with a new processor on it, and just remove the old one and replace with the new? Do I need to flash BIOS after doing this? Do I need a new heatsink, or is that integral to getting a new processor on a new chipset? Is there hope for this computer? I'm hoping someone will take my hand and show me what to buy and just what to do after buying it.
