Hi
I have just finished building a new PC so I thought I would do some comparison
tests against my old PC.
Old PC Spec. P4 1.6 Ghz overclocked to 2.2GHz
New PC Spec. P4 550 3.4 GHz
I first tested with the Axon chess Benchmark program, ignoring all other factors
I should see at least a 1.6 fold speed up just due to the clock rate increase.
Axon old PC PowerIndex = 5.66
Axon new PC PowerIndex = 6.78
This is a measly 19.8 % increase.
As this was puzzling I retested using Crafty and Waster, both these programs
gave almost exactly a speed up factor of 1.6
So what gives with the Axon benchmark ? Looking at an equivalent machine from
http://www.geocities.com/sedatchess/hardwere.html
I should be seeing a PowerIndex of about 9.
I don't think I have cocked anything up in my PC building, but this Axon test
result is making me wonder if I have a configuration problem or should I just
put it down to an oddity of Axon ?
Any thoughts ?
Regards Geoff
P.S Don't say I should have bought AMD :-)
