Go up one level in this thread

The difference? In real live you may need to call an arbiter because the opponent may want to take enpassant when is not possible, he doesn't let you castle after you have been checked (Even if you haven't moved the king and rook and you are not actually in check nor the squares between the king and rook are occupied/attacked) as stuff regarding rules. With the computer that cannot happen since only legal moves can be made (Then again nobody wants to play me on the computer :( If I want to play a human with the computer, I have to do it on a server). But chess is chess, it doesn't matter if you make your own pieces and board from toys, if you buy a Cyborg and play against him, if you play on the monitor with the mouse, if you buy a special limited edition Chess Board and Golden Brass Chess set to play, if you use stones to play in the street or if you play it blindfold: The game is the same. e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Bb5 is still the Ruy Lopez, opening theory stills apply and the level of play is able to remain the same wheter you play a 10 hours per game match against the computer or you fight a Grand master on 40 moves in 4 hours repeating. Ask all the Grand Masters and International Masters that play over the internet in very long time controls and use the same moves they would use in real life, with a monitor and a mouse (And that analyse their games with PC Software) if they feel like playing a Video Game. Even in a Video Game like Dexter Laboratory Chess Challenge or the old Virtal Chess 64, you are still playing chess, no more no less. I respect you and your way of thinking about the issue (Although I don't understand the difference between an online tournament and a real tournament, other than you see your opponent, you see a real board and you touch the pieces with the hands: But the game can be the same, a mate in 17 is still a mate in 17 and doing it without the help of a computer has merit doing it by hand or clicking with the mouse), but telling me PC Software killed computer chess and that Online chess it's a videogame needs deeper explanation that just stating it. I already said why I don't like Chess Cyborgs: They are slow, and weak (Not weaker than me, you know what I mean), why bother with them? That's just my opinion of course, and I wish the best to dedicated computer chess makers for 2005 and years to come, but that's all. I hope this post is good enough to be worth replying.
