I agree that words have power.
I have another story

One of the best players of Israel under 14 today learned when he was a child
that it is not a good idea to joke about offering a draw.

He had a won position in a game and offered his opponent a draw and of course
the draw was accepted(He said that he was only joking later but of course it did
not help him).
