Message for Kurt re J9 installation - THANKS! Kurt, On Jan 3 you posted a reply to one of the J9 threads with advice as to how to install the J9 engine, update it, then de-install the J9 GUI to avoid the bugs in the J9 GUI. Yesterday I received my J9 from ICD and followed your advice. I now have the updated J9 (9.0.0.2 of 12/20/04) engine running fine in S8 GUI, and the J9 installation has been removed. Many thanks for your excellent advice! Why CB does not have an option to just install the engine, and book, if desired, is a great mystery, as is why they do not participate in this forum. I look at CB as I do Microsoft. They really don’t have any effective competition, so act as the monopolist they are, and don’t care if their product is full of bugs when they release it. Further, they post no bulletins about it on their web site, nor instructions on how to work around it, post patches, etc. The public be damned is apparently their attitude. The update on Playchess is crap. You have no idea at all what they are doing, none, nada. But for the fine folks here, and their great knowledge, I’d be one frustrated dude trying to get J9 working correctly. Chris
