There are some previous games that make subgames of captures. And while Archon wasn't chess it was cool having subgames. Best chess variants IMO are Crazyhouse and Tile Chess. Crazyhouse is basically chess as Shogi or single board Bughouse. And the Tile Chess game use the pieces as the board making the playing area mutable. MvH Dan Andersson
