Subject: Chess Computer - How to build your own "Tasc" system

You can't buy a "new" Tasc system since there aren't any and there won't be. You
can only get used units for some pretty bucks. What if you want a similar model
today with more capabilities? Well, just build your own, or, more accurately,
buy and put the pieces together to assemble a similar unity.

3 easy steps:

1. Buy the DGT board $399.95
(ChessUSA has it
http://www.chessusa.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?page=8/83-D40.html&item=83-D40)

2. Buy the OQO (ultra personal computer) $1900.00
(http://www.oqo.com/store/shop.cgi/op/op_index.html)

3. Buy <insert_your_favorite_strong_PC_chess_program_here>

Put the three together and voila! You can have a very strong "dedicated" chess
computer!

I just thought about that because I have been watching the OQO for almost 3
years now. Way before it was released. I was interested in it for other reasons
but the price tag stopped me from getting one.

Quick and dirty pros and cons:

Pros
----
1. Tasc-like system, very transportable and user friendly
2. Extremely upgradable - just upgrade the chess program!
3. You can use multiple "modules" - Arena? Junior? Fritz? Why not use them all?
4. Tournament size unit with very modern smart board
5. Internet ready! (Duh! :)
6. Color screen ;)
7. 1Ghz processor!
8. You can use the OQO as a portable computer as well! (Duh!)

Cons
----
1. Not really a "dedicated" chess computer (some would say this is up for
discussion)
2. Expensive
3. Expensive
4. Very expensive!

Best,

Ismenio
