I did find a copy of the update I used to get the J9 Verson 2 engine that was posted here, as a link, and tried that, redoing the update. I had initially renamed that so I could identify it. It had a Jan 4 date and is 8,744,987 bytes. The one I got today from the Playchess site, created Jan 6, is 8,906,618 bytes. The older one did not cure the problem, nor did it write over my ver 3 of the J9 engine file (I had saved a copy of that in another folder). Perhaps the 12/27 would be best? Please send to camorglaw@adelphia.net. I'll give it a try and let you know by post here. Many thanks!! Chris
