Corbit is a moron.  Ignore him.

The compiler will generate exactly the same code for pieces[BLACK] as it will
for p->black_pieces.  EXACTLY the same code.  So if you want to do it with
separate code for sides, you can, and if you don't want to, you don't have to :)

I used to have it like Crafty, but then I switched to something similar to your
scheme.  Of course, if you think the other format is neater, than go for it.
