Following is a table that summarizes some of the analyses of 2 positions that I had posted here about a week ago. Most of the people who were kind of enough to analyze these 2 positions had also told me that they did in fact clear cache before running them. Can someone offer an explanation why the analysis times are so different from Position #1 to Position #2?? Following are the 2 positions I posted about a week ago. Position #1 [D]1b3rk1/pp4pp/2p3n1/1P1p4/P2P2q1/R4NPb/3NBK2/3QR3 b - - Position #2 [D]1b3rk1/pp4pp/2p3n1/1Pqp4/P2P4/R4NPb/3NBK2/3QR3 b - - Following are the results of various engines analyses: Engine Position #1 (sec) Position #2 (sec) xinix 24.0 9.0 zappa 2.5 1.2 snitch 6.0 11.0 trace 8.3 6.8 fruit 2.0 5.0 3.0 glaurung 1.5 11.0 6.0 gothmog b12 12.0 2.0 macChess 5.01 10.0 6.0 ruffian 2.1.0 11.0 4.0 sigma 6.1 34.0 8.0 movei (old) 180.0 60.0 movei (latest) 300.0 20.0 It would have been interesting to here from Shredder, Junior, Crafty, Fritz. Anyway if I made a mistake with any of the above numbers I apologize. I thought it was interesting to see how different 2 positions with such a slight difference can affect the analysis time. What are your thoughts?? Thanks, Les
