I think that this type of situation can happen for games and at that point the solution has no practical value For example consider the following position [D]5rk1/5ppp/8/8/8/8/5PPP/5RK1 w - - 0 1 I do not expect it to be proved as a draw in the near future but I also will be surprised if games between top programs at 120/40 time control will end not in a draw.
