What kind of chess do these palm programs excel in? What are the elo >ratings for pocket fritz 2, pocker grandmaster on the pocket pc? Hi Adam. If you believe the elo ratings for the current crop of PC programs represent their "true" strength than the posted elo for the Palm programs are also correct. I've tested Hiarcs, Chess Tiger and Chess Genius on a Palm Zire 21 against various pc opponents on a Laptop Pent 3 850 and have found the ratings to be right on. Of the three Hiarcs is by far the strongest. My rating at game in 30' with ponder on for pc programs was 2425. I played 100 games a piece for Chess Tiger and Chess Genius. I stopped testing Hiarcs after 60 games because it was apparent that it really was that strong. For Hiarcs some of its opponents icluded Gothmog 4.6, Fritz 5.32, Comet B54, Nejmet 307, Tao 5.4, Anmon 5.21 and Pharaon 2.62. I've also played Hiarcs against the standalone unit Cosmos which is rated at 2000 and out of 50 -60 games Hiarcs only lost about 3-4 times. Hope this helps.
