Best free engine? Fruit 2.0 v Aristarch 4.50 - Blitz 6'+6" 58-44

Except for Kurt’s recently posted engine matches, test results posted recently
here seem to indicate Fruit 2.0 may, at this time, be the best free engine
available. Comments?

I found that Fruit 2.0 easily disposed of Crafty 19.17 and Pro Deo 1.0 in blitz
6'+6" engine matches on my machine. Closest free engine competitor appears to
be Aristarch 4.50. Results:

Fruit 2.0	57%	+43/-29/=30	58/102
Aristarch 4.50	43%	+29/-43/=30	44/102

Blitz 6'+6", AMD 64 3000+, 768MB RAM, 192MB hash, Shredder 8 GUI, ponder off. No
end game tablebases, alternating colors.

Book for both: Book made from 8,825 games, both players 2600+, wins only, no
draws, file name: CAM - 2600 plus both wins only.ctg extracted from CB’s Big
Base 2003 plus added to that database TWIC 2003, 2004 to date and Convekta 2003,
2004, no duplicate games. No book learning, max variety of openings.

I DO NOT claim that this one test is in any way definitive as to which free
engine is best, of course, but it does support the notion that Fruit 2.0 is a
very strong engine.

Book and games available on request. Email me at camorglaw@adelphia.net.
