Kasparov was the best thing Fide had going for them. Now their legitimacy is in
serious doubt. If you can't make one match for the greatest player of the past
20 years how can you get sponsorship for anything? I predict Kramnik will
eventually give Kasparov a rematch. Not out of the kindness of his heart but
because he will also face problems organizing a qualifying cycle. Chess is a
mess!
