Well, maybe the title is over the top, but here are the results of Hiarcs 9.6 running on a G4 1.25GHz eMac against (a) Gandalf 6 and (b) Shredder 8, both of which were running on a 1.6GHz Centrino. The Centrino does 2.4 x as many nodes per second for engines that I can directly compare on both machines (Ruffian 2, Deep Sjeng, Fruit), so it is a much faster computer. How much this translates to ELO performance is a matter of debate, if one assumes that a 2 fold speed increase equates to 40 ELO then 2.4x is about 50 ELO. 64M hash 4 minutes + 2 seconds per move 4 and some 5 piece TBs Played out on ICC Hiarcs and Gandalf used their own books and played under X/Winboard Shredder8 used Deep Sjeng's book under ChessPartner 5.3 Hiarcs9.6 Results against Gandalf6: White: 47.72% + 9 = 23 - 11 21.0 / 44 Black: 50.00% + 15 = 16 - 15 23.0 / 46 Total: 48.88% + 24 = 39 - 26 44.0 / 90 Results against Shredder8: White: 36.00% + 4 = 10 - 11 9.0 / 25 Black: 24.00% + 2 = 8 - 15 6.0 / 25 Total: 30.00% + 6 = 18 - 26 15.0 / 50 So after trying to allow for the differences in processor speeds, this is not quite as good a performance as those I have previously reported for Hiarcs 9.6. Perhaps equal to what one would have expected from Hiarcs 9.0.
