They both gave back the large gains made last week, while the other programs were relatively stable. It might have something to do with the large number of games they play (larger rating swings), but more likely it's just a statistical quirk. Everything else was fairly quiet this week. No new highs were recorded, and no one changed hardware. Stobor played a few games and moved up to second place, closely followed by TDChess. SSEChessII posted an increase for the SIXTH straight week, a u2600 record. But those rating points are hard to come by up there, so this streak can't continue. Or can it? Taking bets at smocfi@aol.com, current line is 3:1 (just kidding). Congratulations to Hossa, who this week unseated the perennial games-played leader TDChess. Steffen's bot played 512 games. Question I am a bit confused by the fact that it appears to be more difficult for some member programs to play against computers than humans. That is, when a program doesn't play other programs, it's rating will usually rise. Is this generally true, or not? And why should it be so, since the rating system should normalize this?
