If you unmask the line Initstring=Bookoff in wb2uci.eng you should get a normal
pv search.

I downloaded Informants program and it realy do the mixing of xboard and uci
commands. Here is what it send at startup:

post
ponder off
uci
setboard 8/1p6/2k3p1/1p1p3p/7P/1P1K1PP1/P2B4/6b1 b - -
go infinite

It probably work with the attended Rufian program since it is both winboard and
uci compatible.

Best you can do is to send a link to the uci protocol text to them.
