you are mistaken
the first chess computer EVER released for sale was the Fidelity Chess
Challenger
the year was 1977
you must have your years confused

there were however several chess computers that were released very soon after
the CC
the Datacash Compuchess-1977
the Novag(JS&A)-MK1-1978

to name a few
