I think it was a human, and my main pieces of evidence are:

[D]6k1/1pr3p1/p1n1p2p/P1PpP3/3P4/4K2P/5PP1/R7 b - - 0 31

31...Nb4. This move is FAR inferior to 31...g5, and I can't see any reason why a
strong engine (as opposed to a strong human) would play Nb4 in this position and
waste time.

[D] 8/R7/p7/P1Pp1kp1/2r5/3n4/6K1/8 b - - 0 50

50...Rxc5. Engines would play Nxc5 and protect the a-pawn. A human wouldn't
bother.

[D]8/8/P2R4/r2p1k2/5np1/6K1/8/8 b - - 0 56

56...Nh5+. I suspect that most strong engines will easily be able to see the
forced mate in this position. The King sees Mate in 10 in less than one second.

But it certainly wouldn't take an "exceptional human" to beat DF8 in a 5-minute
game when it was only playing on a Celeron 500. Any IM would have a reasonable
chance at it, and perhaps even a Master could get lucky.
