I would, on occasion, if someone complained, contact the poster either via email or by posting a follow-up suggesting that the thread is drifting off-topic and should die... I only deleted posts that met the following: (a) produced multiple complaints from users via the moderator email form; (b) were either offensive with respect to language, or were personal attacks on a member as opposed to an attack on an idea; (c) I had not personally posted in the thread. If I was involved in a thread, I left moderation of that thread up to the other two, to avoid any seeming conflict of interests. We banned many members. They almost all traced back to shaw.ca, where one persistent trouble-maker posts from. This one poster created multiple aliases here, and had "group gang-bangs" where he would use his aliases to gang up on someone and make it appear that many supported his nonsensical agenda. Except for members tracking back to "Sean Evans" I don't remember any bannings when I was a moderator... Hope that helps...
