As far as I know, Prodeo comes with a predefined directory structure with the
subdiretories:
\personal
\log
\Eoc
\books
In the main directory there are two executable files rebeluci.exe and
prodeo.exe. Prodeo.exe is the winboard engine itself whereas rebeluci.exe is
"wb2uci.exe" renamed, so as to have the opportunity of letting prodeo play as a
pseudo-UCI engine in the Chessbase and Chesspartner interfaces.

There are various configuration files.

WB2UCI.ini has a line "Program = prodeo.exe w7 rebel.eng"
So, for launching Prodeo wb engine we know that two parameters have to be on the
command line: "w+num" and "something.eng".
From the FAQ on Ed Shroder's site I found :
"You can increase (or decrease) the Hash Table size by editing the WB2UCI.ENG
file as found in your PRODEO folder. Modify the "w7" item of the parameter:
Program = prodeo.exe w7 rebel.eng

      into: w1, w2,w3,w4,w5,w6,w7,w8 or w9

      w1=512Kb | w2= 4Mb | w3= 12Mb | w4= 24Mb | w5=40Mb
      w6= 60Mb | w7=100Mb | w8=200Mb | w9=400Mb

      Save the file and restart the program. The change is permanent."
This gives an explanation of the "w+num" parameter.
The second parameter refers to "rebel.eng" which lies in the "\personal"
subdirectory and is the default personality file (there are other predefined
personalities such as "Garry Kasparov.eng" and so on). All these ".eng" files
are simple text files where you can change various playing style parameters such
as the importance of the bishop pair, passed pawns, king security and so on.
But none of these .eng files does include anything like a reference toward a
given "userbook" file.

In the main prodeo directory, there are other configuration files.

There is a "prodeo.cpeini" file which is for using prodeo in the Lokasoft
Chesspartner interface.
In this long file, there are the three following lines :
bookfile=Filename(Opening books (*.mvs)|*.MVS)
tournamentbook=Filename(Tournament books (*.bin)|*.BIN)
userbook=Filename(User books (*.rbm)|*.RBM)
This seems to refer to the possibility of asking the operator to select his
favorite books ...
The file "prodeo.cpvar" has lines with 'bookfile="rebel.mvs" ' and 'userbook= '
so I suppose that the operator answers are kept here. But this is
chesspartner-specific and doesn't help me with selecting a book under
winboard...

Finally, there is also a "rebel.ini" file with another selection of parameters
to be modified by the user (in chessbase interfaces?) but this file does not
refer to opening books ...

So my question remains unanswered : how can I select which user-built opening
book should be used by prodeo under winboard/xboard ...
