I have just downloaded and tried out this new version of Shredder. (Is this the actual upcoming Shredder 9?) It seems like it might be very great, in light of the fact that I played one of my typical exchange sacrifices, and gave it over to Shredder to play against itself, on my behalf. Shredder took full advantage of the strategic possibilities inherent in my position after sac, and won very thrillingly from my side. I try this often (with other engines). I see a great sacrifice whilst I'm playing, but cannot take it much further, even though I'm SURE it's a great idea. But I get lost in the complications. Then when I ask my computer to prove my sacrifice for me, it fails to do so. But now, this Shredder did JUST THAT, beyond all expectation. In other words, me plus Shredder would make a great "advanced chess" opponent. S.Taylor
