Hi Andrew,

You don’t need to spend so much. Although the Atlanta is a very worthy and
capable M/C it is also very strong and not so suitable for a beginner. The
Mephisto Master has the same programme but on slightly slower hardware and no
hash tables. At £139 it is good value. It doesn’t have and LED on each square
however.
I would also have a look at a Kasparov CHESS CHALLENGER at £69.95. This has a
nice strong programme and some good beginner features. May I suggest you have a
look at www.elhches.demon.co.uk and talk to Eric Hallsworth. He is very unbiased
and very helpful.
You don’t want to spend too much money only to find your daughter losing
interest after a month or so!

Best regards

Clive
