Hello,
I have been carrying out some testing between shredder 8 and king 3.33
(Schumacher) in fritz gui and noticed that king is so far drawing shredder in 5
min games, using 5 moves.ctg and 4 and 5 tablebases. Firstly is it best to click
the box play in open positions in shredder 8s engine parametres or leave un
ticked, what is strongest? So far King is winning 27 to 23 which somewhat doesnt
surprise me. I know that over 50 games this doesnt give me the consistency to
prove that king 3.33 is stronger than shredder 8 as more games are needed. Im
going to keep working on king settings and try to play more games and analyse
games myself and compare with current king parameters to try tune better. If i
tested king with shredder over say 10 min,15,20,30 and eventually tournaments
style controls wud shredder prove stronger as i hav heard previously on here it
gets stronger at longer times. I am not certain but watching some of the game
today there were times when i though the kings endgame teachnique seemed suspect
or this could be shredder playing perfectly, do both engines hav equal access to
my tablebases as i set them both for access but just think shredder is utilizing
them better, why is this. Furthermore, king 3.33 seeme stronger than shredder in
some positions as i have also noticed that once shredder is playing white or
EITHER black and ahead in material by say only a pawn, its evaluation shoots up
to + 1.79 or adding extra values whihc i cannot see its ahead in. Obviously
these extra values might be pawn structure, positional advantages, king
safety, ect.Yet, still in the same position when king is down its evaluation
remains realistic at -0.80 as opposed to an optimistic +1.79. The different
evaluation fucntions both engines incorporate tell different stories as there
playing styles are different. Persoanlly, since watching king 3.33 destroy fritz
8, i have taken a likening to kings very solid approach as a realistic chess
engine and its positional play is very good. Then again shredder can get in to
exceptionally good positions and its endgame play can be perfect. The fact that
shredder is a rather optimistic chess engine might be a bad or good thing as it
can over exaggerate as its evaluation function seems arrogant. Both engines have
their ups and downs. Finally, since shredder 9 is now coming out on 10 th feb, i
have a positive feeling that its evaluation function mit be tweeked or tuned
down a little and its plays will be stronger than shredder 8s. Im certain it
will be stronger than king 3.33 schumacher setting, therefore it will be king of
the castle.Im going to try testing king 3.33 with shredder 9 to see how strong
shredder 9 is. Does anyone know if there will ever be a king 3.33 for multi
processor computers -deep king 3.33? as shredder has now done this it would be
fascinating to see king in a deep version as well.
