You can run most of the engines under Winboard and those that are UIC engines
you can use Polyglot to gain the winboard capatibility. I created a Crafty
package some time ago with a book that runs under Winboard that requires not
install, just unzip and play and will only take up 5.5 Meg of your memory stick.
