OK I have at least some time to make my choice  :).

Hope the recovery is going well.

Well the Renaissance Sparc has oodles of charisma. That big expanse of
tournament board with four lights per square, the gorgeous slide out LCD screen
with lots of info, the neat rows of controls, the strange flip down cover, that
orangey brown module with the slightly sinister grill and the fan whine, they
all shout - "I'm special play ME".

On the debit side is the awkward power connection, the rather less classy
materials of the board, the strangely small pieces, the fan noise, the fact that
I haven't beaten it yet, the longish set up time from its somewhat downmarket
packaging. But you wouldn't discard a fine chess computer for those reasons
would you?
