The indexsize is shrunk by removing unblockable checks.

If white to move, black cannot be in check, meaning at most 4 squares can be
removed from the possible squares where the white bishop can stand on. ( ie if
Black king on d4, no bishops can be on c5,e5,c3 and e3.

If black to move, white çannot be in check, but because of the Bishop and
Knight, at most 12 squares can be removed.

That's why the BTM egtb is smaller than the WTM egtb.
