Subject: Moderation/ the end of "swami" name calling ....

The moderators recently received a post from a young man who made a very
convincing argument that we should not allowed CCC members to call another CCC
member "swami".

The argument is that it was degrading and insulting to those members who come
from India. The question was raised if would we allow other ethnic groups to
be simliarly harassed.

For example, without going into all the specific examples, would we allow any
ethnic group to be harras in a similiar fashion? The answer is no. Mitigating
this somewhat, we did have a member named "swami" who became infamous for trying
to obtain engines illegally. I believe most of the references were made to
those who posted like "swami" and not becauae a member was from India.
Nonetheless, new members do not understand the "swami" history and we should
stop it. Our members from India find this "swami" name calling degrading.
Would we allow people to call our members , kraut, nazi, kite, hunky, dago, polak
etc. The answer is no and we should not longer allow "swami" either.

So I'm asking everyone to simply stop calling any member "swami" - although I
realize the tempation is there, it is simply not the right way for us to treat
our fellow CCC Indian members.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Best,

Michael Byrne
