Subject: Collector's Corner..A Brief History Of The Chess Playing Robot

Author: Steve B

Date: 06:14:52 02/04/05

All in all only 10 variations of chess playing Robots were released for sale to
the buying public
the term Robot as it is used by Collectors is any "self-moving" dedicated
computer
as the term implies ,the computer will make its own move on the board without
player involvement

below is a nice link which contains a good pictorial essay on 8 of the 10 Robots
released
the first one shown is the legendary Boris Handroid which never made it to
market as the company making it went out of business before its release

for the sake of completeness i have included photos of the two Robots not
mentioned in the link:

in addition the Milton Bradley Phantom:

and the Excalibur Mirage(Marble):

of the 10 Robots only 4 are considered Rare by Collectors

The Milton Bradley Phantom
The Fidelity Chesster Phantom(model 6124)
and the Excalibur Mirage(Marble)

Robo-Regards
Steve
