Fritz 8 is a relatively slow knowledge-based engine, so I would say that the
best type of engine to complement Fritz 8 is a fast-searching engine with
minimal but adequate knowledge. Two engines immediately spring to mind. The
first is Fritz 5.32, which probably came free with your copy of Fritz 8. The
other is Little Goliath, which can be downloaded free from www.goliath-chess.de.
I'm not saying that these are the best engines, but they will give you different
ideas.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a super-strong alternative engine, pick
Shredder, which is even slower than Fritz but has more knowledge.
