Sorry Ian I couldn't find the old thread. Intelligent Chess is a real old favourite. It has a program by David Levy. Elo around 1100-1200. Made by Scisys in 1980. It can be played using the LCD readout and/or with the Television display (normal TV aerial lead). Buttons on the unit to make the moves. The tape recorder is used to load and save games. A tape of famous games originally came with the machine. It also amusingly plays music etc tapes through the built-in speaker. Typically the TV picture is a little temperamental, with the horizontal hold going slightly at the top of the screen. The one in your link looks a bit battered which does not bode well. They are heavy machines and fairly easily damaged. I have had to take one of mine apart and mend it. The machine has demonstration/teaching possibilities using the television display and commentary.
