In the interview with Stefan Meyer-Kahlen, the programmer of Shredder, that comes from the Arena website, but the interview is in German. He was asked what was different between Shredder 8 and Shredder 9. He said that the new engine of Shredder 9 evaluates defense resources with king attacks better; this applies both sides of a game. Of course, Shredder 9 plays better middlegames thru endgames. What impresses me the most is that a new feature of Shredder 9 Classic UCI that enables it to access tablebases of up to six pieces in a server online! A very interesting idea. The size of that tablebases is 750 GB. You don't have to install 6-piece tablebases on your computer because of too large size. Instead you can use Shredder 9 to analyze an endgame position overnight while searching tablebases online. However, I have two questions: 1. Does searching tablebase online weaken a chess engine a bit? 2. Will accessing tablebases online cost money or be free? I could get in a dilemma if I decide whether to buy Shredder 9 CB or Shredder 9 Classic UCI, because I have no idea whether Shredder 9 CB includes that interesting feature, I prefer ChessBase products though.
