Regarding my previous post, I have now discovered that my Fritz 5.32 when it plays black will never move a pawn to a the first rank UNLESS it can move to that rank via a capture, even if the move delivers mate. It will not have this problem when moving a pawn to the 8th rank as white, but as far as I can tell it always avoids promoting a pawn as black-unless it can do so by making a capture. The result of course is some collossal blunders.
