In the "infinite analysis" mode under Fritz 8 interface (version 19), as well as the Chessbase 9 interface (version 5), Shredder 9 seems to get very deep, very fast. Faster than Shredder 8. I do not look at nodes/sec, only the depth. I have not found an instance yet where the two programs differ in the suggested top move, but I am not looking too hard yet. I also have not looked over the PV yet to see if I like it better than S8. As for games, I have tried a quick informal run in Arena 1.1 of Shredder 9 vs. Shredder 8. Naturally, under this interface, I cannot use Shredder books. I played 21 games of Game/3 minute and Shredder 8 trounced Shredder 9. I moved the time control up to Game/5, and a small number of games also went to Shredder 8. I am now going to try using the Shredder interface - I will do a more controlled experiment overnight. I can say that in all that I have seen, Shredder 8 uses the clock more effectively than Shredder 9. Maybe that is an unfair statement, but S9 is always behind on the clock compared to S8, winning or losing. These are only first impressions - don't take them too seriously yet.
