Computers do not necessarily play openings the way we humans do. They value different things, and approach situations in a a different way. And where do you get that in the Sicilian, the 'most important square' is e5? That's quite a superficial analysis. When I say that it is GM strength, I mean that it performs over a set of games with the same or similar outcome that a human GM would, i.e. that it would beat a FIDE 2300 with a score of approximately 75% or more. Since you believe that CM6000 is not GM strength, please post some verifiable games (in tournament conditions, of course) where you demonstrate that it doesn't perform against you as a GM would. To me, this would mean that you should perform against CM6K better than you would be expected to against a human 2500 FIDE, given your rating. Every experience I have had with CM6K leads me to believe that it is indeed of GM strength. I have played several GM's and IM's (Beat my first IM last weekend, btw),and playing against them, I feel the same kind of domination that I feel when playing against CM6K. My score against CM6K (on my Cyrix MII 266) is similar to what it should be against a FIDE 2500 or so. So what's important is not just that CM6K plays the openings the way you feel they should be played. It's the game that matters. If I get checkmated 20 times out of 20, the fact that CM6K didn't control the e5 square in the opening is rather moot, isn't it? Chris Dorr USCF Master
