(remember: the original post was about "why the serial number request at playchess.com?"). I can't take very seriously ban callings by someone who e.g. suspected here other engine authors of including maybe a virus in their first engine release download - look at http://chessprogramming.org/cccsearch/ccc.php?art_id=253086 (2 days before release of the first Ruffian freeware version 1.0.0 facing the great results of Ruffian beta 0.7.6 in those days): "...I still do not believe that Ruffian is going to be freeware and even in case that I am wrong I am going to be careful to download it as a freeware without a source code because I am going to suspect that it includes a virus... I cannot trust somebody that I know nothing about him and I do not understand his behaviour." Did you download Ruffian 1.0.0 then ? :-) Manfred PS: I'm able to use Playchess with my Junior 9 without any problems. PPS: I congratulate Stefan Meyer-Kahlen on selling his Shredder UCI engine + Shredder Classic gui now exclusively by himself (of course I've got Shredder 9 from www.shredderchess.com).
