It's not proven that this fellow cheated.  The best circumstantial evidence is
this mate in 8 announcement.

As I've said before, my buddy, Paul Beckwith, put in a 2500+ performance when he
was about a 2150 player.  He could have won the tournament if he had some sleep
the night before the last two rounds.  I believe his story:  some jerk was
playing a nintendo game in his house that night, it kept him up so he was bushed
that day!

What did I learn from him?  Along the lines of your hypnosis suggestion, his
positive attitude rubbed off about 200 points for my play in the subsequent
year... just my cent.
