I have many CB engines and Chessbase 9, so I don't need the CB GUI. To me, it
made much more sense buying the UCI version directly from Stefan (which I did).
That way, I got a new interface (a good one), the UCI Shredder 9 engine, which
works well with both CB and all other interfaces (which the CB version doesn't),
and a good huge opening book optimized for Shredder. It's no more expensive
buying from SMK, since CB charges shipping ... with SMK you pay no shipping &
get your engine instantly. I don't see why to buy the CB version for us ... do
we need the same GUI, plus the same 500,000 games *again*? I don't think so.

As far as not having a backup CD with a download, there is a way around that
too. I copied the 2 downloaded zip files (5 mb for S9 and 17 mb for the book)
to a CD, and wrote "Shredder 9" plus the license key info on it. That way, I
*do* have a backup. Personally, I also like it that SMK, who created the engine
& did the work, got most of the money I paid, and not Chessbase! (which already
has lots of my money).

Just my 2 cents (or .02 Euro) worth. By the way ... Shredder 9 *rocks*. So
far, in tests using 25 Nunn2 positions, with each engine playing white & black
for each position, 4' + 2" per game, I got the following, against 2 engines
known to be good blitzers:

Shredder 9 30 1/2
Junior 9 19 1/2

Shredder 9 33
Hiarcs 9 17

Yes, I know we need lots of more games and at different time controls to know
the true elo increase, but I was impressed with the above and the quality of
S9's wins. Even more impressive, S9 is not supposed to be best at blitz, yet it
beat the stuffing out of 2 good blitzers from equal positions anyway.

I have found SMK's interface to be a good one and it's good to play against when
setting the elo. I'm a good player, but have *no* chance against Shredder 9
unleashed (do any of us?). This way, I can win some games in a realistic
fashion.
