If you are interested in the result of a match between Hiarcs 7 and Hiarcs 6, you should of course use the same hardware. That match will be played sooner or later by someone in SSDF who has two PCs with P200 MMX. But for SSDF the primary goal now is to get a rating for Hiarcs 7 P200 MMX. This can be achieved by playing against combinations of program/hardware with "known" SSDF-ratings. In this case against Hiarcs 6 P90 which at the moment has 2437 after 1214 games against other entries. When you want a rating for a new program with a certain hardware it doesn't matter much which hardware the other program uses, as long as it has an established rating. If the difference in rating is high though, the margin of error becomes slightly higher than if you play against opposition with roughly the same rating. And if you play against a weak opponent, you have to have a better score in order to get a certain rating. Best regards Thoralf Karlsson PS A new rating list will appear in a few days. New entries are Hiarcs 7 and Fritz 5.32.
