There is a valuable new feature in the Classic GUI, for those of use who use chess software primarily to analyze moves and games in infinite analysis mode, such as correspondence chess players do. With this new operation, we can now tell the GUI exactly which moves it should analyze in a particular position. For example instead of analyzing all 45 legal moves (or whatever the number) in a particular position, we may pick out the 3 best (or whatever number) most likely candidate moves. The GUI will then perform the infinite analysis for those 3 moves only, and ignore all other legal moves in the position. Instead of 10 hours analysis time, it might only take 1 hour to achieve the same desired end goal. Of course this requires that we pick the best candidate moves or the result won't be worth much, so good chess players will be able to use it to most advantage. This feature is for those of us who like to search for the truth in a single chess position. We might spend hours, sometimes days, running infinite analysis mode on a position to achieve our goal. So it is not for those who are satisfied to play blitz chess. You can also access a 800GB online tablebases server with the Classic GUI, which includes the 6-man tablebases. There is also an "Endgame Oracle" in the Classic GUI which provides various access features for the tablebases, such as perhaps training with them. But I haven't had a chance to explore it yet. I believe the Classic GUI will also run multiple engines simultaneously, but I would never do that, so haven't tried it. I can also say that the data output in the engines window is more controllable (somewhat user-definable), detailed, and better organized in the Classic GUI. Both are workable, and they give approximately the same data, but I like the Classic GUI outputs a little better. I haven't seen the CB version of Shredder 9, so I can't say with absolute certainty that those features (mentioned above) are only present in the Classic GUI, and absent in the CB GUI. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can confirm or deny. >I found chessbase to have many different ways to >anaylise.I.E Deep position or simply plugging in one of my own candidates and >letting Shredder have fun in infinite analysis.I am Having a lot of fun using >Friend mode with shredder in CB the first few games I won easily but as the >program ajusts to my strength it is getting interesting. Yes, Chessbase software is far better for anything related to chess database operations and management. If you like to create your own databases and opening books, or search for positions in a database, then it's definitely the best GUI. However they are not mutually exclusive, i.e. as my original post indicated... You can use both GUI's at the same time (simultaneously), then "pick & choose" which operations you want to perform from either. They can communicate game data through a PGN file. >I must say that I have been >having problems with running wb engines(Prodeo recently,wb2uci)in that sometimes >they just hang or do not shut down when unloaded.Have you encountered anything >like this with Classic gui?To sum up.Where do you feel chessbase lacks in the >analysis dept? Discussed above... They're not much different, except the new option to limit candidate moves in infinite analysis mode is probably unique to the Classic GUI. >Do you find shredderchess better for other engines? I haven't tried any other engines. >And how do you >feel the strength or perhaps style has changed between Shredder8 and >Shredder9. Your guess is as good as mine. Probably, but I tried it and didn't have enough patience to learn how to use it. WP
