I wasn't there at the time, so I wasn't involved. But apparently crafty offered a draw in a position that was heading into an EGTB draw. The opponent wanted to accept, but didn't tell the chess server, rather he told channel 64 that the game was drawn. The TD responded that the game is still going on, and your clock is running. It was a mess. First thing is that you can't assume the game ends on a draw offer every time, because the GUI can make mistakes, or there are race conditions such as you offer a draw, get no response, and so you make a move which could be taken to retract the offer. I would not have cared whether the TD called the game a draw or time loss, this isn't that big a deal. It does speak volumes for having a debugged and thoroughly tested system, so that this simply can't happen. I had my fair share of such bugs early in the development of Crafty, but by playing enough games on ICC, these bugs are eliminated before a tournament comes along.
