It is not about the interface, it is about the package as a whole. When
purchasing Fritz, Junior, Hiarcs and previously Shredder, you knew what you were
getting.

A strong program, decent interface, and an generated book.

When I bought CT15 CB, I didn't know what book it was coming with. I just
purchased it.

Now we have Shredder in two forms. One from CB that like always has a generated
book and the decent interface.

Then we have the offering by SMK in his _own_ interface, with _his_ own book.

I find it amazing that the author of the UCI standard did not enable the use of
"own book" in his _own_ engine. After 5 emails since 7.04 was released, with no
response, this is not something he wants to discuss.

Gandalf in UCI mode supports Dan Wulff's terrific book. Obviously the feature is
there and usable, yet somehow it doesn't find its way into Shredder. I simply
don't understand this. If it had, the CB sales would be pointless. Maybe that is
the reasoning behind it.

If the UCI version of Shredder was released supporting Sandro's book in _any_
interface, then I would purchase it hands down. It would enable me to do just
about anything with it.

Soon other top engines will be released supporting the UCI standard, and
supporting the own book feature, and _those_ will be the ones that I purchase.

On a completely other topic, how to you like Chess Assistant?

I have heard great things about it, and I was planning on getting version 8. Is
it worth it? Or should I find version 7 on ebay for cheap?
