Hi, a couple days ago someone posted this endgame study: [D]7k/5K2/5P1p/3p4/6P1/3p4/8/8 w - - 0 1 There were contradicting solutions regarding Shredder 9, most from UCI-version, because CB-version was not widely available. I had my first(!) copy send by mail last Thursday (received my second one today.. if you live in my neighbourhood you can come pick it up...still unopened) Anyway, I put the position in S9-CB and also noticed strange behaviour. (Learn-file empty and write-protected.) Sometimes it finds the key-move in a few seconds, other times it takes minutes. I thought the problem was solved when I unchecked "keep hash tables" But no, that isn't it. It's completely random. When it does search 1.g5 early, it finds the win pretty fast, if it concentrates on 1.Ke7 then it takes considerable time to "find" 1.g5 Why is there this randomness? So far the question, now to make a personal statement about Shredder 9. SMK and SN have done a great job by making the strongest desktop chess-playing program even stronger. On the Playchess-server (engine-room), I mainly play blitz games. Having used Hiarcs 9, CT 15 and good old Fritz 7 (very good blitzers), I can now proudly say that within two days S9 with it's CB-book (yeah!), has shown an increase in rating topping the old one(s) set by aformentioned engines. incredibly though, because of it's results with 1.Nf3 and 1.c4 it sticks with it. (Thought that was Fritz's domain) GUI-version is 18-1-2005 for those interested. So, thank you Stefan and Sandro for rasing the standard once again. Just don't have the intention to_solve_chess please ;-) Kind regards, Rick And how about that question I have...
