Shredder 9 has some new features and improvements over Shredder 8.

For example you can set the engine to access tablebases early, normal, or late
in Shredder 9. Shredder 8 churned my hard drive way too much in endgames and the
analysis usually slowed down to a snail's pace. Now it works correctly in
Shredder 9, even with the default normal setting.

If you analyze positions very much, you may also appreciate that Shredder 9 has
removed the stupid blunders in the analysis lines, such as giving away the
queen. It may not be perfect in that regard yet, but usually the analysis lines
make sense now.

Speed is a factor too. I'm finding that Shredder 8 and 9 are about the same
speed in closed positions and with most of the pieces still on the board. But
Shredder 9 shows a significant relative speedup when the position opens up,
and/or several pieces have been exchanged.

If we play a game sometime, I hope you stick to your resolve not to buy Shredder
9... :)
