Subject: Infinite analysis... bug?

Whenever i do infinite analysis, some engines will after x nodes go from say 600
kN/s to near zero, does this mean that the engines stops calculating at a normal
rate or does this just mean that they don't know how to count beyond a specific
# of nodes?

In other words, when i observe this behaviour has the engine quit or does it
still search at it's normal strength regardless of the low kN/s #?
