It's interesting to note that you came to exactly the same result as SSDF did many years ago... I rember us talking about that as early as in the mid 80's I think. Probably that will not hold forever because of the fact that the gain of deeper search is decreased the deeper the search is. And in fact that is what your result really imply! The speed diffence between Pentium 90 and 200MMX is far more than double. Here is a clip from the SSDF FAQ http://home3.swipnet.se/~w-36794/ssdf/ssdf-faq.htm Q: How important is speed? A: If you double the clock speed, you gain about 70 points. That was true ten years ago, when we evaluated Constellation, Plymate and others at different speeds, and it still seems to be true in 1998 when we run PC programs that have a much higher playing strength. Some say that it varies between different machines or programmers, that some programs gain more and others less from an increase in speed, but that has never been proved. You will certainly find differences if you compare all programs we have tested at different clock frequencies, but such differences could well be attributed to statistical inaccuracies. //Peter On January 28, 1999 at 12:07:44, KarinsDad wrote: >I've noticed a rating increase from the Pentium 90 MHz to the P200 MMX (as >expected).
