1) Platform and Tools:
Athlon Thunderbird 1.1GHz
512 MB RAM
Windows 2000, since mid 2004 Windows XP

Elostat 1.3
PGN-Extract 15.0
Lgpgnver 1.11
Winboard 4.2.x (newest version)
WB Tourney Manager 0.60 (Jori Ostrovskij)
Uci2wb 2.0 (R. Pfister) for SoS3 and SoS4

ChessTiger, Rebel, UCI engines (other than SoS) and engines without built-in
book support play in ChessPartner 5.3.
Other GUIs and/or tourney managers might be used in future, as long as the CPU
amount received by the engines is not affected.

2) Settings:
Time control 300+2
Ponder off
Transposition tables as close as possible to 96MB
Pawn hash as close as possible to 8MB
Full set of 5 piece EGTBs (if supported by the engine)
EGTB cache (if applicable) 8MB
All learning off (as far as possible)
Engine parameters left on default settings
Specifics such as bitboards etc. are enabled
If existent the engine books are used; engines without own book use a
ChessPartner GUI book built from book.pgn taken from the ftp site of Dann
Corbit.

3) Retirement:
In order to limit the number of games an engine is retired from active
participation in YABRL as soon as a newer version of the same engine has been
added to the rating list and the newer engine proves to be of greater or equal
strength. Engines with stability problems may also be retired, even when there
is no replacement available. Engines at the bottom of the rating list may be
retired as well, in order to limit the number of active engines if needed.

4) Active and Retired Engines:
Active engines participate in matches, while retired engines do not do so any
longer. Games of retired engines are, however, kept in the games database and
continue to be included in the calculation of all future rating lists. Hence,
retired engines will remain in the rating list, although with progressively
wider error margins than the active engines, which continue to reduce their
error margins with every match they play.

5) Modus:
A new engine to be added to the rating list will play matches against all
engines that are active at that point in time. Each match is a series of 20
games with switching sides after each game.

6) Verification:
Games are verified with PGN-extract and lgpgnver. Duplicate games played by
exactly the same versions of two engines are removed from the database.
Incorrect draw result claims are corrected. In some rare cases (e.g. crash of an
engine in a decided position, obvious bug in a clearly won position etc.) games
may be adjudicated if necessary.

7) Ratings:
Ratings are calculated with Elostat 1.3, the rating of LambChop v10.99 is fixed
to 2497 as a reference point.

8) New Engine Versions:
For engines that are updated frequently not every single version will
necessarily be added to the rating list, because this might unbalance the engine
mix and lead to skewed ratings. Participating engines also must possess a
certain minimum playing strength, roughly around 2350 in this rating list.
